A workflow for this portal
Identify city, state and file type. For foreigner files prepare known full name and parentage. Record references in SIAN; distinguish description, image and reproduction request.
Access and copies
A description may lead to a reading room or an order. Check item access and copying conditions before travelling.

What you can research here
The FAQ separates landing lists, foreigner-registration files and naturalisation files. Lists follow ship arrivals; foreigner files may contain parents, residence, occupation and attachments, but not uniformly.
Prepare a focused search
For passenger lists, prepare name, ship, port and arrival dates. For foreigner files, add parents and registration city. Compare both without equating arrival with naturalisation; present-day administrative requests follow separate procedures.
